Imperfect Symmetry

| The first step in photographing a snowflake is catching it. Until recently, I used microscope slides (scavenged from my childhood toy-microscope) to catch them. The slide would simply be set out in the falling snow, and when a nice flake landed on it I'd bring it over to the camera. I recently bought a couple pieces of quarter inch thick glass, and now use these. They are larger and can be harder to work with, but are less sensitive to the heat from my fingers. |
