Frosted Window Pane

|
This winter, our first snow came in mid December. temperatures were in
the upper 20's, but were rising quickly as the snow fell. I managed to
get a few good shots, only to find that the snow crystals were melting
as I worked with them. To keep them cold, I chilled some thick glass
panes in my deep freeze, figuring that the cold glass would preserve the
snow crystal for just a few more moments, giving me time to get the
shot.
The cold glass quickly frosted once exposed to the relatively warm and moist air, resulting in this shot of a snow crystal on the frosty glass. I like the almost prehistoric feel to the image - to my eye it looks like a fossil, chipped out of a layer of rock. But I obviously gave up on this technique for more conventional shots. |
